The Statue & the Apparition

Our Lady of Fátima appeared to three shepherd children — Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco — on the 13th of each month from May to October 1917. The children described a Lady "more brilliant than the sun," dressed in white robes hemmed in gold, with a rosary hanging from her joined hands. This statue follows that traditional iconography: the golden crown added by pilgrims in 1946, the white veil with gold trim, the simple rosary held to the chest. Every detail reflects the children's own testimony and the 100+ years of Marian devotion that has grown around it.

History of Our Lady of Fátima

In 1917, in the small village of Fátima, Portugal, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children: Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco. Between May and October, on the 13th of each month, the children reported seeing a luminous Lady who brought messages of prayer, peace, and devotion to the world.

During these apparitions, Our Lady entrusted the children with three secrets and called for prayer, especially the Rosary, as a path to conversion and hope for humanity.

The final apparition, on October 13, 1917, was witnessed by tens of thousands of people who had gathered in Fátima, Portugal. Many reported seeing the extraordinary Miracle of the Sun, a phenomenon in which the sun appeared to dance across the sky.
